"Inspiration Wall"
Mural at Ocean View Blvd. at the Interstate 15 exit. was proposed by Sonya Ollison
at the Graffiti Control Division for the City of San Diego and approved by
Counsilmember Charles L. Lewis of the Fourth District. The mural is over 135 ft. long.
“This wall was a constant target for graffiti over the last several years so When Sonya asked me to design a mural for the area I
wanted it to be relevant to the community and instill pride as part of its mission besides stopping graffiti. Murals are
generally respected by taggers and improve the look and value of an area. The idea started with Muhammad Ali, a man
all could respect, and evolved from there. ”“The wall contains inspirational quotes and faces of famous mentors like
Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King Jr., Kennedy, Caesar Chavez and Malcolm X. It's also filled with positive,
uplifting quotes from world recognized leaders that everyone respects.
”Two of the Quotes:
“Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school.
But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything.”
Muhammad Ali
"Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog, all of the time.
” When asked which dog wins, he thought and said, "The one I feed the most."
