Pricing for 2008
If you've never hired a muralist or faux artist before, here are ways to help you understand the process. All clients are important.
and all projects, large or small, are considered. We can usually work within most budgets. We ask that you share all
of your great thoughts & ideas as well as your price range so that we can come up with the most for your budget.
On the TIP PAGE you will see helpful hints to save time and help you come up with great ideas.
1. Call or e-mail and explain what you are looking for.
This will help us prepare for our first meeting and determine which type of samples to bring.
|
 |
2. Initial Consultation
On the first meeting we will look through portfolios and evaluate your needs.
(References and credentials can be checked on this site so you can see my body & style of work, and levels of skill, etc. beforehand)
Faux sample-boards and books may be brought depending on type & scope of project.
We will "brain-storm" various thoughts and ideas, discuss themes & color schemes, compositions and designs.
We may also look through magazines or internet images for other sources of inspiration.
At this time we will discuss budget, personal preferences, deadlines and the many creative possibilities that are best for your space.
The areas to be worked will be measured and digitally photographed .
A price estimate will be sent within 3 business days.
Each project is designed to the individual requirements of each client.
Please have a budget in mind before scheduling an appointment. (see below for examples)

3. Mural rendering & Faux sample boards:
At this stage, there is a rendering fee for murals, depending on complexity.
A mural is only as good as the initial drawings & study's that one invests into it.
It is important to take the time and make sure that you collect all the reference material needed for a great piece of art.
This may include:
a. Taking photographs & looking through books in an art reference library for inspirations and ideas.
b. Making study's, drawings and/or computer renderings for the project
c. Coming up with the best possible design idea for the project.
The rendering is basically a "Jumping off point".
The full scale mural is always more detailed and more life-like but this gives a basic idea & is what the client OK's before work is begun. Changes of up to two hours time are at no extra charge.
I use traditional hand drawn techniques combined with the latest in digital imaging. I will take pictures of the wall area and digitally implant the mural into the area to be muralized.
FAUX SAMPLE BOARDS are required to show the MASTER SAMPLE for the faux wall treatment. There is a $150 fee for up to two samples. You OK one of these boards before faux work is begun.
If after seeing my previous work, and you feel you have enough trust in my artistic abilities, you may ask that I proceed at my own artistic discretion. In this case there is no rendering or sample-board fee.
On multiple murals or faux projects with many rooms, rendering & faux sample-board time is charged at $100 per one hour increments with a time estimate given.
If you belong to a nonprofit organization, school, pre-school or other low income group that may need special pricing considerations, please contact the artist to discuss this.
|
|
4. Contract:
After you approve the rendering and/or sample-board, we sign the contract, receive a deposit and schedule a starting time.
|
 |
5. The work is scheduled.
A date is marked on the calendar and the work begins at that time.
All Jobs are on a first come, first served basis.
Please book your job early as new requests are continually coming in and many may be booked months in advance.
If your are on a deadline, please let us know as soon as possible.
Night work may also be done.

MURALS
|
FAUX
|
How pricing is determined:
Murals are generally priced by the square foot and by level of detail or complexity. Some customers want a high level of detail (Hyper-Realism or trompe l'oeil)
and others may need a looser artistic feel to the work... Still others may want a Masters reproduction in oil or an abstract design.
Generally murals start from $25 per sq. ft. for simple cartoons, children's art or sky murals (minimum 100 sq. ft.) and up to $150 per sq. ft. for complex scenes, trompe l'oeil, etc.
The average price range is between $35-$55 per sq. ft. plus, scaffold, misc; plus expenses.
(Scaffold, Clear coat, expenses, travel and lodging to remote locations, etc. are priced separately)
If a reasonable budget is known beforehand, this can usually be worked within.
All walls must be a “blank canvas”; painted white and ready to go. Any walls that need to be patched, prepped, repaired or painted first are at an additional rate.)
|
There are many types and techniques for faux. They start at $4 per sq. ft. and go up depending on type of technique and level of work involved.

Other things to consider:
1. What is the degree of detail and complexity of the image or faux work? Is it a trompe l'oeil? Is it a very loose, simple image or a three step faux finish?
2. Is it the full size wall area or just a section to be painted (square feet)? Is there minute detail wanted or portraits involved, etc?
3. Does the initial concept drawing need a lot of research, study, sketches? Does the client have tear-sheet ideas, pictures to help clarify the design, wall treatment, etc.? (If the client has ideas & pictures from magazines like Home & Garden or the Internet, etc. This saves time/money)
4. What is the sq. ft. of the area?
5. What is the quality of the surface? Is it rough stucco? Does it need surface preparation, patching, priming, etc.
6. What is the location of the area to be worked? In a stairwell, high ceilings? Does the work need to be done after hours? Ceilings are much harder on the body, mainly the neck.
7. Is scaffold needed, etc?
8. Would the mural be painted on canvas & installed?
9. Where is the site of the project? Is travel and hotel stay necessary?
